When John Pappajohn took the podium at the IMU Main Lounge last Friday, he was greeted with a raucous round of applause from the standing-room-only crowd, and he opened with a self-deprecating joke about Taylor Swift.
About half of UI students receive scholarship assistance of some kind—including about 2,800 students who receive scholarships funded by charitable donations from individuals and companies.
“It’s never a bad time to be Phil,” says Jen Knights, assistant director of campus philanthropy for the University of Iowa Foundation. “This is a year-around effort, and it’s great to see so many people put so much energy behind it.”
